The Thoroughbred Breeders' Association (TBA) is pleased to announce an expert panel for its annual Forum, Trading Perspectives: From Stud to Sales Ring, taking place on Thursday 26 November at Tattersalls, Newmarket, during the December Foal Sale and kindly sponsored by Streets Bloodstock Accountants.
Now in its fourth year, this free-to-attend event will bring together industry experts involved in breeding, buying, preparing and trading thoroughbreds to explore the commercial considerations that influence decisions at every stage of the bloodstock market.
From purchasing foals to pinhook as yearlings or breeze-up prospects, through to sourcing horses in training, the discussion will examine what buyers are looking for, the factors that influence value and demand, and the opportunities and challenges facing those producing horses for the sales ring and racetrack.
Hosted by racing broadcaster Vanessa Ryle, the panel will include Tom Blain, Managing Director of Barton Stud and TBA Trustee; Sam Hoskins, breeder and syndicate manager; Adam Potts, bloodstock agent for BBA Ireland; Ellie Whitaker, breeze-up consignor, EMW Equine and Roderic Kavanagh of Kildaragh Stud and Glending Stables in Ireland.
Drawing on their experiences across different sectors of the market, the panellists will share their approaches to identifying potential, assessing commercial appeal, managing risk and ultimately making buying and selling decisions.
Naomi Mellor, Chief Executive of the TBA, commented: "We are delighted to be returning to Tattersalls for our annual Forum and have assembled an excellent panel representing a range of perspectives across the bloodstock market.
"Understanding what drives demand and value at each stage is particularly relevant for breeders, whether they are producing horses to sell as foals or yearlings, or looking further ahead to the breeze-up market or racing.
"The Forum provides a valuable opportunity to hear directly from those actively buying and trading horses, gain insight into the commercial decisions they make and discuss the factors shaping the market.
"We hope the discussion will appeal to breeders, owners and bloodstock professionals, as well as anyone interested in entering the industry. Our thanks go to Streets Bloodstock Accountants for their sponsorship and to Tattersalls for once again hosting the event."
Sam Hoskins, breeder and syndicate manager, commented: “Having been involved in both breeding and buying racehorses, I know how different the considerations can be at each stage of the market. What appeals to one buyer may be quite different to another, but ultimately, we are all looking to identify horses with the potential to succeed.
“It should be a really interesting discussion, particularly with such a varied panel, to explore what drives those decisions, where buyers see value and opportunity, and how the market continues to evolve. I'm looking forward to sharing perspectives and hearing from others involved at different stages of the process.”
Andrew Diplock, Partner for Streets Bloodstock Accountants added: “We are delighted to be working with the TBA and supporting this now annual event – this is another fascinating topic that is bound to appeal to a broad audience and for us, a brilliant opportunity to support the industry and learn ourselves.”
Taking place in the sales ring at Park Paddocks by kind permission of Tattersalls, there will be refreshments and an opportunity to network with fellow breeders as well as industry professionals from 4.00pm.
The panel discussion will commence at 4.45pm, followed by an interactive Q&A session giving attendees the opportunity to put their questions directly to the panellists.
