Important message from the DVSO - Smart Tacho 2 will be required in all horseboxes for cross-border movements from 1st July 2026
As part of the EU/UK Trade and Cooperation Agreement, the installation of a Smart Tachograph 2 (SMT 2) will be required in all light goods vehicles (LGVs) over 2.5 tonnes used for international transport, as of 1st July 2026.
Fleet managers must ensure correct installation, data archiving, system security, and staff training; whilst drivers must hold valid smart cards and comply with driving and rest time rules. Non-compliance risks severe fines, vehicle immobilization, and penalties affecting both drivers and companies.
