Full Bloodstock Conference Programme Released

With just three weeks to go, the full Bloodstock Conference programme has been published. The one-day conference taking place at Tattersalls on Tuesday 25 June will cover three core themes over the course of the day, with trainer and founder of National Racehorse Week's, Richard Phillips delivering the keynote speech and leading broadcaster and journalist, Lydia Hislop hosting the one-day conference.

The first session of the day entitled ‘The Horse’ will welcome Professor Madeleine (Maddy) Campbell, who will present on how greyhound racing has responded to welfare challenges and the ethical justifications for the use of animals in sport. This will be followed by an interactive panel session on why aftercare can never be an afterthought, with particular focus around life outside of breeding and racing for racehorses and broodmares with Prof. Madeleine Campbell, Louise Robson, Roly Owers, Philippa Gilmore and Dr Ian Cameron.

Prior to lunch, Louise Robson from Thoroughbred Dressage will also be bringing along re-trained racehorse Quadrille for a live show and tell in the parade ring. Quadrille was bred by the late Queen Elizabeth II and is now owned by HM King Charles III and was named  RoR Horse of the Year in 2019 and 2020.

Over the lunch break, there will be an opportunity for networking and to browse the marketplace which returns this year with details of all exhibitors available on the TBA website.

The second session of the day entitled 'People' will welcome Dr Gemma Pearson, who will present on  key influencers of equine behaviour and how to support handlers to enhance their interactions with horses, in order to consistently achieve their desired outcome. This will then be followed by a presentation from Lucy Attwood on the new workforce strategy for the racing industry. The two presentations will then be brought together by an expert panel on the required skills for stud work with Dr Gemma Pearson, Lucy Attwood, Eileen Harte, Joe Bradley and Adam Holland.

The third session of the afternoon is focused around 'Business' and will feature Stephane Bazire, Head of Sustainability and Partnerships at Silverstone on their own race to net zero. We will also hear from Sarah Wynn from ADAS who helped develop the TBA Stud Farm Carbon Calculator and will present on 'Reducing the climate impact of British stud farms'.

The final session of the day will welcome Dr Kanichi Kusano, Head of the JRA London office who will present on 'improving the quality of our racehorses' with reference to the success of the Japanese breeding programme followed by an interactive Q&A.

The Bloodstock Conference is FREE to attend for TBA members and £60 for non-members. Non-members who sign up will automatically receive a year's ACCESS subscription at the TBA.
