Free Transfer of Ownership and passport amnesty announced for end-of-year-foal sales
For the third consecutive year, the General Stud Book (GSB) at Weatherbys has generously agreed to process free of charge Transfer of Ownership updates for foals sold at the following sales:
- TATTERSALLS – December Foal Sale, 24 - 28 November 2026
- GOFFS UK – British National Hunt Breeders’ Showcase, 3 December 2026
British and Irish-based purchasers of foals at the above sales can take the paper passport for their newly acquired foal(s) to the on-site Weatherbys office at Tattersalls or Goffs, during the duration of each respective sale, and complete a Defra change of ownership form, to be eligible for a free of charge GSB ownership update.
Timely compliance with legislative requirements such as transfer of ownership, which must be completed within 30 days of any transaction taking place, is vital to the thoroughbred sector in demonstrating transparency of industry processes and accountability of those responsible for each horse's care. Whilst, maintaining correct ownership records with the GSB at each of the Great British Bonus (GBB) registration stages, is also required to ensure that that any future bonuses are being paid to the worthy recipients (i.e. those who own the horse and are making the payment at each registration stage). Don’t miss out!
Passports for any deceased thoroughbreds should be returned to Weatherbys within 30 days of the horse's death. Please do feel free to return any such passports to the on-site Weatherbys office at Tattersalls or Goffs during bloodstock sales, without having to incur postage costs.
The TBA thanks all breeders for their thorough record-keeping, which is crucial for under-pinning the industry's traceability efforts and demonstrating the highest standards of care for all horses bred to race.
