As part of the Thoroughbred Breeders’ Association’s (TBA) mandate to improve race opportunities for mares, and to protect and encourage a diverse thoroughbred breed, the TBA is delighted to announce a new cash bonus for mares running in point-to-point bumpers under Rules on licensed racecourses.
Point-to-Point mares will have the opportunity to win a bonus of up to £3,000 in any of the three end-of-season bumpers run under Rules on licensed racecourses.
The bonus, offered by the Thoroughbred Breeders’ Association, aims to encourage more owners to test their mares on the Point-to-Point circuit and to provide those proven horses the opportunity to progress to the National Hunt racing programme.
Exeter (24 April), Aintree (18 May) and Stratford (8 June) racecourses will host the qualifying bumpers in 2018.
The 3-2-1 Bonus will operate on a sliding scale with the highest placed mare receiving a £1,000 bonus, a further £1,000 (£2,000 prize) if she is British bred and another £1,000 (£3,000 prize) if she is owned by a TBA member*. The prize will apply to the first five finishers only.
The 3-2-1 prize scale cannot be inverted i.e. highest placed mare + TBA member doesn’t qualify as £2,000 prize.
Mare owners with eligible horses can join the TBA to qualify for the bonus, up to the day prior to the qualifying bumper in which the horse is entered.
*TBA membership eligibility – for cases where horses are owned by more than one individual – the majority of partners (of up 8 partners) must be current members, otherwise for larger syndicates just managing partners will need to be current TBA member.
