TBA renew cash bonus for mares in Point-to-Point races under Rules

October 27, 2017 |

Point-to-Point mares will once again have the opportunity to win a bonus of up to £3,000 in any of the three end-of-season bumpers run under Rules on licensed racecourses.

The 3-2-1 Bonus aims to encourage more owners to test their mares on the Point-to-Point circuit and to provide those proven horses the opportunity to progress to the National Hunt racing programme.

The 3-2-1 Bonus operates on a sliding scale with the highest placed mare receiving a £1,000 bonus, a further £1,000 if she is British bred and another £1,000 if she is owned by a TBA member. The prize applies to the first five finishers only.

Exeter (24th April), Aintree (18th May) and Stratford (8th June) racecourses will host the qualifying bumpers in 2018.

Claire Sheppard, Chief Executive of the TBA said: “We are delighted to be able to continue this initiative for a second year. The 2017 bumpers saw some great results with two individual prize winners; Koala Keel and Askphilmour.

“We hope these bonuses will support the PPA’s activities and create further opportunities for fillies and mares to develop in the Point-to-Point programme. We would like to thank the PPA, BHA, racecourses and their sponsors, for their ongoing support for this initiative.”

Clare Hazell, Chief Executive of the Point-to-Point Authority (PPA) said: “The TBA’s innovative contribution to the mares’ bonus scheme was a significant and much appreciated addition to the series of the Point-to-Point Bumpers run under Rules last season and we look forward to seeing some quality mares progressing through the ranks over the coming months.”

Further information on the 3-2-1 Bonus and the above mentioned bumpers will be published on the TBA and PPA websites.
