Eight mares eligible for the TBA 3-2-1 Bonus at Aintree on Friday

The Goffs UK Spring Sale P2P Bumper Standard NH Flat Race which takes place at Aintree on Friday 18 May, is the second bumper of the year to carry the TBA 3-2-1 Bonus and has attracted a strong entry of eight fillies/mares eligible for the prize.

The initiative which was introduced as part of the Thoroughbred Breeders’ Association’s work to improve race opportunities for mares, gives connections of mares the chance to win a bonus of up to £3,000 in any of three end-of-season bumpers run under Rules on licensed racecourses. The bonus operates on a sliding scale with the highest placed mare (in the first five finishers) in each of the bonus races receiving a £1,000 bonus, a further £1,000 if she is British bred and another £1,000 if she is owned by a TBA member.  Please note that the 3-2-1 prize scale cannot be inverted i.e. highest placed mare + TBA member doesn’t qualify as £2,000 prize.

The bonus on the race at Aintree on Friday promises to be a competitive renewal with four of the eight mares/fillies entered, Strike Hollow, Rapaport and Lily the Pink being winners of a JLR Group Series P2P Flat Race this season.

Joe Tickle, trainer of Lily the Pink comment that: ““Her owners, Paul and Lesley Nicholas, are fully aware of the TBA’s 3-2-1 Bonus, and realised they could finish fifth and still pick up some bonus money [if she is the first filly or mare across the line]. ‘’

Four of the eight mares entered are eligible for the £2,000 should they be the highest placed mare (in the top five) which include Behomebymidnight, One for Martha, Gypsy Charm and Lily The Pink.  However, any owners wishing to make their mare eligible for the full bonus, are able to do so by joining the TBA before the race on Friday.

Lily the Pink is one of eight mares entered in the Goffs Spring Sale P2P Bumper at Aintree on Friday
