COVID-19 Update - 26 March 2020 - lockdown protocol for thoroughbred breeders

Following Monday night’s announcement, the TBA has been working hard to seek clarification on how the government guidance to stay at home affects the industry and, in particular, the covering of Thoroughbred mares.

We have carefully reviewed the government guidance and taken as much advice as possible in the available time to produce an Industry Protocol for Thoroughbred Breeders during the lockdown period to complement the lockdown guidance already released by the industry COVID -19 steering group.

It is essential that the protocol is implemented by Thoroughbred breeders during this time, and that it is recorded that staff employed on studs have read and understood it. Stallion studs should send out the Covid -19 proforma to breeders when the covering is booked. The advice given to us has been very clear that if, at this time, you cannot follow all of this protocol you should not be moving and transporting Thoroughbreds for breeding.

The advice issued today is based on the latest government guidance, and will be updated if this changes. If you have any questions about this guidance please email [email protected].

General information and guidance is available on the TBA website's dedicated COVID-19 page here.  There are additional templates and guidance being developed for breeders, and we continue to work with industry partners to provide the latest information and advice to members.

Please monitor the news area of the website, and TBA social media channels for the latest updates.

Hoping members are staying safe and well during this time.
