Knowledge

The TBA is the authority on all aspects of the breeding industry and keeps its Members informed about every development and as to how this will affect our Members’ businesses.

  • A FREE subscription to Thoroughbred Owner & Breeder magazine (worth £59.40) and access to the magazine online http://www.ownerbreeder.co.uk/
  • A FREE Thoroughbred Stallion Guide for all UK members (on request for Irish and foreign members). The 2012 Stallion Guide was sent to all Domestic Members, as part of their membership package in December 2011. Financial

Through the EBF, breeders are one of the largest sponsors of UK horseracing contributing over £1 million in prize money each year. The TBA is working with members to save them money wherever possible.

As a member you are entitled to:

  • HBLB Breeders’ Prizes free of the £230 administration charge

  • Breeders Badge Scheme - Free Racecourse Entry

FREE entry for Breeders to watch horses they have bred run at over 1,000 fixtures at 58 racecourses in Great Britain. See Breeders' Badge Scheme under Membership Services.

  • Preferential rates with the TBA Bloodstock Insurance scheme
  • Third Party Liability Insurance Cover for Domestic Members:

The TBA Third Party Liability Insurance Scheme covers all fully paid up British based Members of the TBA. It is designed to protect members in the event of Thoroughbred breeding stock or youngstock they own causing injury or damage to a third party or their property when away from its home premises.   • Horsemen's Group Bonus Scheme

A £5,000 bonus will be added to almost 100 races in 2012, however, these bonuses will only be payable to winning connections who are members of the Horsemen's Group constituent bodies which includes the TBA. See news article.

  • ROA/TBA Free Lease Exchange

This service is only open to TBA and ROA members; all TBA members need to do is complete this form providing details of the horse for which they would be prepared to offer a FREE LEASE. The TBA will pass this information on to the ROA for distribution to their members. Details will be posted on the ROA website, within the restricted access area.

Taxation

The TBA fights for fair taxation for the breeding industry and our active committee of experts works proactively with HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC).

As a member you get:

  • A FREE online comprehensive and authoritative bloodstock taxation guide which has been agreed with HMRC and which is regularly updated in line with changes in legislation.
  • A FREE hotline on tax and VAT matters for an initial consultation with our retained experts

Legal

The TBA is the authority on contracts across the industry and works proactively with lawyers and industry authorities.

As a member you get:

  • A FREE hotline on legal matters providing initial advice and consultation
  • FREE legal contracts – boarding stud agreements; employment contracts and discounted nomination agreements (TBA Standard Terms Nomination Agreements (£1.50 plus VAT))

Veterinary

The TBA veterinary committee is the respected authority across the industry on all health matters and advises Government as well as the industry.

As a member you get:

  • FREE second opinion over the phone from the TBA’s vets – all specialist experts in thoroughbred breeding
  • FREE codes of practice covering equine venereal diseases
  • £100 Virus screening subsidy - in turn helping us all learn more and prevent similar deaths in future (Conditions on application)
  • The TBA Veterinary Committee monitor all major disease threats to the breeding industry

Employment

The TBA provides the authoritative human resources and employment guidance within the breeding industry.

As a member you get:

  • FREE hotline on employment matters for an initial consultation with our retained employment law specialist

Training & Education

The TBA plays a vital role in not only keeping the whole industry informed and updated as to the latest developments; but also developing and supporting a career in the industry to attract and retain the best possible people.

As a member you get:

  • TBA Seminar programme specifically programmed to meet current Member concerns
  • Stud Farming Course developed in light of Member experience
  • Training for your staff - we can signpost you to the most suitable courses and training across the country
  • Graduate placements - The TBA works with Colleges to help place students to gain experience
  • A younger generation that understands and supports the Industry. The TBA has instigated and runs the Next Generation Club to promote all aspects of breeding

Recognition, Networking and Social:

  • Two annual TBA stallion parades, Flat and National Hunt
  • Monthly and Annual breeding industry awards
  • Stud Staff Awards
  • Regional events - a chance to share knowledge and visit places of interest
  • Cheltenham Breeders Club
