James Gannaway

I can honestly say that I had a truly wonderful day - I was a complete child in a sweet shop and displayed a 'Cheshire cat' grin all day!!

I found out about the Next Generation Club through facebook.  I saw the advert for spaces on the Racing & Breeding Day, emailed straightaway, and was one of the lucky ones who got a place.

Newmarket was a new experience and, as the epicentre of flat racing, I was intrigued to go.  It was just illuminating and quite surreal; a unique illustration of man working with horse.  I learnt so much and found the visit thoroughly worthwhile. Chatting with David Simcock whilst touring the yard gave a deep insight and understanding into the world and art of training racehorses.

I was brought up in the racing / breeding industry on a small stud in Leicestershire, which I have always been involved with.  The last few years I have tried to gain as much knowledge possible at different quality throroughbred set-ups, and also see how it is done in other countries.  A huge passion of mine is seeing how they develop from foal through to racehorse, and I love working with yearlings so I have travelled to countries such as America and New Zealand to parade yearlings at sales, etc.  Last year I ran a barn at the National Stud, then spent time in New Zealand, and came back to experience the buzz of riding out in Newmarket.

I first heard about the NGC when reading the Owner & Breeder magazine, and the Club was of immediate interest to me.  One reason the Breeding & Racing day appealed to me was because I was keen to meet new people who love the game too.  Having the privilege of speaking to a top trainer and listening to him talk about his horses sounded interesting. Although the National Stud is a place I am very familiar with, I have never sat through one of their superb tours!  Admittance to the racecourse with a free racecard was a fabulous opportunity, and the hospitality area was ideal as a base for the day.

I thoroughly enjoyed the whole day.  The highlight for me was hearing David Simcock talk us through his string on the gallops and then being shown around his lovely yard.  It was a great day out, very well organised and never a moment of boredom!  I will certainly be looking out for future trips / visits.

Neither my husband or I are involved in the industry and have never been horse racing before - a friend invited us to the NGC Racing & Breeding day.  Horse racing was something we have never considered before, so thought it would be interesting and we weren't wrong!

The tour of the Gallops and the National Stud was very interesting, especially as horse racing is something completely new to us so it gave us a really comprehensive background.  The event itself was nothing like we thought it would be; the NGC Committee were very friendly, welcoming and passionate about what they do!  We will definitely be going racing again.

I work for a luxury beauty company as a Junior Brand Manager.  I originally became interested in racing through my Grandfather, who took me racing when I was younger.  I worked with Epsom trainer, Les Montague Hall, when I was fourteen and I knew then that the early starts and English weather were not going to work for me!

I was, however, bitten by the bug, and have watched the racing every Saturday since then and try to go racing as often as possible.

I have always wanted to go to the National Stud, and the Racing & Breeding day provided the perfect opportunity.  I wanted to meet like-minded people, as none of my friends are particularly into horse racing; and I met some great people who I will hopefully keep in touch with.
