Health and Safety Courses 2008

Two IOSH Managing Safely Training Courses, will be held at the British Racing School near Newmarket in 2008. These 4-day courses are designed for managers and supervisors in any organisation and will provide the skills necessary to handle health and safety matters in the workplace.

  • Tuesday 23rd September, Newmarket Racecourse – HEALTH AND SAFETY IN THE RACING AND BREEDING INDUSTRY SEMINAR

A BHA Health and Safety Seminar providing practical guidance on health and safety matters for studs and racing yards will take place on Tuesday 23rd September at Newmarket Racecourse. Running from 1 pm to 7 pm, and costing £40 (including VAT) the seminar will be delivered by Tony Payne, Health and Safety Advisor to the TBA and is IOSH accredited.

Staff management courses

The British Racing School holds regular Head Lad/Lasses courses which are suitable for anyone supervising staff on a stud or racing yard and which focus on the skills necessary to successfully manage staff, including communication, handling conflict, employment law, motivation, team building and different styles of leadership. Lasting 2 days, the Course fee is £140 inclusive of tuition, course literature, lunch and refreshments. Accommodation is available at the BRS on request.

Educational Seminars at the Royal Veterinary College

Two Seminars for breeders are on offer at the Royal Veterinary College at Potters Bar as follows:

Foal to weaning: care of the growing horse – 1st October 2008
Mare Reproduction: pregnancy to foaling – 4th February 2009

Lectures will be delivered by veterinary surgeons based at the RVC. Refreshments are available from 7 pm, with the seminars starting at 7.30 pm and lasting for approximately 90 minutes. Tickets at £10 must be booked in advance and for further information contact Caroline Turnbull at the TBA. Email
