National Hunt Committee Initiatives

The NH Committee, via the Chief Executive, continues to be represented on the Jump Racing Development Group (JRDG) and this year the TBA submitted a paper to the JRDG on maximising racing opportunities for young National Hunt bred horses. These proposals will be developed during 2010 in conjunction with the BHA.

HBLB Mares Voucher Scheme

Now in its second year, the HBLB Mare Voucher Scheme is open to the highest rated NH race mares, identified by their official published rating in the Anglo-Irish Jump Classifications published annually in May. Owners of these mares are notified by the TBA that their mare is a member of an elite group that has been identified to receive an incentive to breed the winners of the future, entitling them to a voucher up to £3,000 against a nomination to a British based stallion of their choice. Subject to available funds, it is hoped this scheme can be offered to TBA Members on an annual basis.

TBA/Kenneth Oliver Foal Championships at Doncaster Bloodstock Sales

Reductions in Sales Levy income meant that the TBA were forced to pass future sponsorship of the TBA Kenneth Oliver Memorial Foal Championships, held at Doncaster Bloodstock Sales during the January NH Sales, on to BBM, whose responsibilities include NH promotion and marketing, to be funded from the TBA’s contribution to BBM activities. In 2009 the winners were a colt by King’s Theatre out of Temptation, bred by Patrick Burling, and a filly by Old Vic out of No More Money, bred by David Jenks.

TBA John G Charlton British Breeder Award

TBA member and National Hunt Breeder the late Mrs Evelyn Charlton has very kindly sponsored an award, in memory of her son John, to be presented to the breeders of all British Bred Graded Chase winners at the Cheltenham Festival.
