Friday 17th October - Thoroughbred Breeders' Day, Newmarket Racecourse
Friday 17th October saw the annual Thoroughbred Breeders' Day start the two-day Champions' meeting at Newmarket Racecourse, with the highlight of the day being the Group 3 Georgia House Stud Darley Stakes, accompanied by two Listed races. A nine race card in total, all sponsored by those involved with the Breeding Industry, saw a good crowd, with plenty of TBA members supporting the event. After several of the races William Morgan, TBA Representative and breeder, interviewed the sponsor of the race, allowing them the opportunity to impress upon the racegoers the importance of the breeding industry for racing. Interviewees included Kirsten Rausing, owner of Lanwades Stud, Chris Harper, owner of Whitsbury Manor Stud, Oliver St. Lawrence, member of the Federation of Bloodstock Agents, Sam Sheppard, Chief Executive of the European Breeders Fund, Brian O'Rourke, Managing Director of The National Stud and Gavin Pritchard-Gordon, Executive Chairman of British Bloodstock Marketing.
